Cole Caleo of Moline has been named as the 2018 recipient of the Thomas K. Evans Memorial Scholarship.
Caleo, a recent graduate of Alleman High School in Rock Island, will receive $5,000 toward tuition at Iowa State University, where he plans to study engineering in the fall.
“I kind of shot high for this one,” said Caleo of his application. “It’s an honor to be given an award by a local company that stands for something on a global scale.”
The Thomas K. Evans Scholarship is funded by American Power Systems, Inc. APS was founded in 2006 by
Thomas Keenan Evans, a local engineer and entrepreneur who passed away in 2013.
“Cole is a distinguished student and hard worker with a genuine, demonstrated curiosity about how things work, as well as a strong drive to make a difference through innovation. We couldn’t be more pleased to present him with the first scholarship award in Tom’s honor,” said Amy Lank, APS president.
Caleo is the son of Thomas and Tracy Caleo of Moline. He was recognized at a scholarship reception July 26 at APS company headquarters.
