Modern vehicles rely on high-power, fast-charging solutions such as lithium-ion energy storage systems or batteries to provide greater current to energize cabin comforts or mission-specific equipment. While these high-voltage systems can better support such equipment, traditional vehicle chassis platforms still require current at 12 volts. The challenge today, then, is integration.

American Power Systems, Inc.’s bi-directional DC-DC converters function as an essential component for in-vehicle power distribution with 12/48V and other dual-voltage battery configurations. Clients use our bi-directional DC-DC converters in a variety of scenarios, from commercial to defense. A variant of this product enclosed in an IP-rated case is also available.

The APS 3000 Series Bi-Directional DC-DC Converter integrates dual voltages effectively and efficiently. Units serve a variety of applications -- including trucks, vans and micro- or mild-hybrid automotive systems -- and operate as an ideal current source with variable direction, thus allowing seamless energy transfer between the two voltage domains.
Our bi-directional converter used in conjunction with the APS-500 Alternator Regulator represents a simple solution for total energy management. Units include voltage feedback that maintains the output voltage within the acceptable operating range and allows a custom charging profile for batteries.
